L to R: Vonda William (Invertix), Award Winner James Burns and Patuxent Valley Middle School Principal, Robert Motley
|
Vonda Williams is a veteran Invertix analyst and long- time Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) member who has seen everything come down the pipeline from 9/11 to Federal shutdowns to historic elections, but throughout her career she values her volunteerism and community service above all else. That's why when she presented a $2500 check to Mr. James Burns, a 6th grade science teacher from Patuxent Valley Middle School, she was beaming with pride. Mr. Burns was selected by the Central Maryland Chapter of AFCEA as a winner of the 2011 Teaching Toolkit award via the AFCEA Adopt-a-School program, which provides local schools with funding, resources, and personnel to improve hands-on scientific education. The Teaching Toolkit Award is specifically given out to deserving teachers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs at public and private schools; STEM programs are underfunded in many school systems and rely on outside grants and donations to keep their students fulfilled. AFCEA strives to keep these programs up and running in order to grow our future leaders in the world of technology. Ms. Williams and Invertix have both long enjoyed a strong relationship with AFCEA in the Washington, D.C.- Baltimore areas and sit on multiple committees within the organization. Invertix is a key sponsor of the Northern Virginia AFCEA chapter's monthly luncheons that are keynoted by high-ranking military and government officials in the Technology and Intelligence sectors. Patuxent Valley Principal Robert Motley summed up the mood of the day by saying, "Mr. Burns was beaming today because of his recognition. We are looking forward to showcasing the wonderful things we will implement as a result of this award."
